The Reed Switch in Housing 4mm Sockets is a small device consisting of a metal vane mounted inside an evacuated glass tube. When a magnetic field is placed near the tube, the vane will deflect towards a small electrode, creating an electrical contact. Upon removal of the magnetic field, the vane will return to its original position and make contact with a different metal contact, resulting in a switching action known as 'Single Pole, Double Throw'.
If a capacitor needs to be charged and discharged maybe 5 or 10 or 20 or 40 times per second, the reed switch can do it.
